During designing Dmitriy's exterior, I've been caught in the "originality" trap. I was fixating on idea to make him not to look like any well-known robot. It was not good way, becouse... you know, it's all but impossible or very hard to do with human-like robot. The Universe was trolling me, tossing up the images or thoughts, reminding me, that it all already exists. For example, once after making some sketches with DM, I decided to read the Secret War comic. And suddenly the Crimson Dynamo happened. *facepalm* I've seen Crimson Dynamo before, but he was much different. But the "Secter War" Dynamo was just like Dmitriy.
Or, when I've added DM the armor looking like scary demon face, my freind asked me if I ever watched Gurren Lagann. Honestly, I haven't. And I watched some pics and, oh, shiii...!
As I said, this is bad way to create characters. The right way is to starting from an IDEA.
Do I need the human exterior for robot for my idea? Yes.
Do I need his scary chest-face for my idea? Yes.
So, calm down and draw it, and don't worry that some robot's detales can remind the other robot characters.
The Sunflower for Android story is about botanical nursery, where the two robots and humans working together.
F-1 (Feodor) is overscrupulous about every living being robot-gardener.
DM-51 (Dmitriy) is former war robot, now outmoded and working as security guard in this nursery. F-1 sees DM as a menace for his little paradise, becouse of Dmitriy's cynicism and misanthropy. Well, DM isn't actually evil, he is just... nihilist. He doesn't really hate people, just think that the humans are funny idiots. Knowing the Feodor's and people fears, DM amusing himself trolling his colleagues in reality an internet. Also, being a bit paranoic, he haunting the aliens, stealing radish. That's stupid, yes.
But on the other hand somebody really steal the radish...
Oh, and both of the robots were created by one scientist. And she is working in the nursery too. For some reasons. And now had a headache with her creations.
